Hal Empie Studio and Gallery

All the works of art in our Tubac, Arizona gallery were created by western artist Hal Empie (1909-2002). He was a self-taught artist having only six weeks of art classes in his 93 years. Everything you see was created from memory or imagination and he never used a camera or photographs. Hal Empie is the youngest licensed pharmacist in the history of Arizona. The famous Empie Kartoon Kards, western postcards, were created by Hal. You’ll recognize them from early Arizona Highways magazines. Mr. Empie had three careers at once… his paintings, his pharmacy and his cartoon business His life and works are alos documented beautifully by the Arizona Highways magazine.

Having sold his first painting professionally in his teens, Empie’s western art has sold now for over 80 years. Western art created by Hal Empie is avidly collected today. The gallery continues to successfully consign and purchase his original works for resale. By doing this, the Hal Empie Gallery can offer a changing selection of original oils, watercolor, pen & ink & charcoal sketches. We also offer a large selection of western art prints, both limited and open editions.
